Mid West Alliance Golf 2018

The Mid West Alliance have finalised their 2018 Fixtures and along with a new Format they are ready for the new golfing season!

2017 MWA Champ Peter O’Keeffe

The Mid West Alliance is open to golfers under 9 handicap and will have 3 Categories within their 2018 Events – Category 1 will be for 3 handicap and lower, Category 2 will be for 4-9 handicap golfers while their new Over 45s Category (sponsored by Kemmy Stonecraft) will be just that, for Over 45s under 9 handicap. The MWA will have 7 Events in 2018 with the best 4 cards from each golfer to count towards the Shootout at Trump Doonbeg! The Top 18 that will contest the Shootout will be made up of the Top 6 from each Category. As per previous Alliances, the scoring format will be Gross Stableford.

After the 7 events The Top 18 will contest the “Sunday Shootout” at Trump Doonbeg on Sunday 8th April 2018 where the Mid West Alliance 2018 Champion will be crowned!! Your top 4 scores from the Events will carry over into the Shootout.

The 2018 Fixtures for the Mid West Alliance are as follows:

  • Sunday 11th February at Dromoland Castle Golf & Country Club, entry fee €35 per person
  • Sunday 18th February at Trump Doonbeg, entry fee €55 per person
  • Sunday 25th February at Galway Bay Golf Resort, entry fee €40 per person
  • Saturday 3rd March at The Heritage, entry fee €40 per person
  • Sunday 11th March at Ballykisteen Golf Club, entry fee €30 per person
  • Saturday 17th March at Dooks Golf Links, entry fee €40 per person
  • Sunday 25th March at Dromoland Castle Golf & Country Club, entry fee €35 per person
  • Top 18 Sunday Shootout, Sunday 8th April at Trump Doonbeg

Experience Ireland Golf & Travel Invitational 2017

Experience Ireland Golf & Travel (EIGT), hosted its Inaugural EIGT Invitational Day at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club on Friday 3rd November 2017.

Nearly 80 golfers, from all over the Irish Tourism Industry and further afield, took part on the day, in glorious sunshine beside the beautiful lakes of Killarney. A 12pm Shotgun Start got all the golfers on the course at the same time and many of them made the most of the fantastic weather and great condition of the Killeen Course at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club in posting some superb scores on the day.

Following the golf, there was a Craft Beer Tasting with Carlow Brewing Company while Halewood Wines & Spirits were on hand to give the attendees some of the finest whiskeys & gins to sample. Dinner was provided by the new caterers at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club – Geraldine, David & Team – which went down a treat after a great day’s golf. The Inaugural Winners of The EIGT Invitational were representing Killeen House Hotel, in the form of Stephen Foley & Derek Kelly who shot 47 points on the day. They went away with a Motocaddy Golf Bag each plus The Invitational Shield and hats from The Caddy Guy Ireland – a fantastic haul!

The Carlow Brewing team came 2nd on 44 pts, on the countback from Mount Wolseley (Eamonn O’Donnell & Michael White) who finished 3rd on the same score. The 43s were next – Trump Doonbeg (Kevin Kenny & Michael) were 4th while the Killarney Golf & Fishing Club team consisting of Lady Captain Sheila Crowley and outgoing President Breda Duggan. Derek Kelly also picked up the Nearest the Pin prize while Jason O’Leary from Dromoland claimed the Longest Drive with one of the final tee shots of the day on Killeen’s 18th Hole.

The feedback was fantastic from the golfers, both about the condition of the golf course and also the meal served afterwards. Of course, Experience Ireland Golf & Travel were also commended on somehow organising a summer’s day in November!!

Alice Thompson and Tom Kennedy of EIGT both spoke about the company and its plan for the future, including its 2018 Tournaments of which there are 4 – The Social Media Open in April, Social Media Parkland Championship in June, Social Media Open North in July and Social Media Links Challenge in August.

Alice Thompson of EIGT told us “It was great to have such a tremendous turnout on the day, and the support was greatly appreciated, especially in the off season for a lot of people. We hope to make it an Annual Tournament in the future! Many thanks as well to Cormac Flannery, Aoife Nolan, Geraldine and David McCarthy and all the Team at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club for their support in putting the Event together. Big thanks also to our Invitational Tournament Partners – Motocaddy, The Brand Geeks, Carlow Brewing Company, Halewood Wines & Spirits, Elite Events, Krave, Mount Wolseley, The Caddy Guy Ireland – for adding that little extra to The Inaugural Experience Ireland Golf & Travel Invitational!!
